We made it! We finally made it!!
We had a total of 17 miles to go, and it seemed to just fly by, even though the weather was in the high 90s and
unbearably sunny the whole day. We were close to the city, so we passed lots of encouraging people, which kept us going. The thought of a big takeout meal at the end of the day also kept us going. We finally got into D.C, but we still had to find the 0 mile marker. It was hidden in an obscure lot that was only accessible through a boat yard, so it took us a while to get there, but we found it eventually.
After that, we came to our final hotel, where my sister was waiting for us. I immediately took a shower. There is no feeling like taking a shower and putting on clean clothes after being filthy. Also, the sight of fried rice and dumplings that we ordered quite literally brought tears to my eyes. Never again will I eat a granola bar 6 meals in a row.
I would like to give a big thank you to all of you for being a part of our journey and being our motivation to keep going. This endeavor has been one of the hardest and most rewarding things I’ve ever done, but I couldn’t have done it without you. Well, maybe I could’ve, but I’m not trying again to find out.
Tomorrow we will walk to Union Station and take the train back to Charleston. While it will be nice, it’s not worthy of it‘s own post, so I’m officially signing off here. Thanks again to everyone for the support and overwhelming positivity. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
